Shatto Milk Company

Shatto Dairy Field trip
Students and teachers attended Shatto Milk
Company in March. The small, familyowned
farm is located in Osborn, Missouri.
Shatto owner, Barb Shatto, shared with our
group that her family has been farming for
over 100 years, and began a dairy farm
more than 60 years ago. They started
processing their milk in 2013, making it
available to consumers in local grocery
stores in and around the Kansas City area.
We were happy to sample some tasty milk
flavors including favorites like chocolate and
strawberry milk, and new, fun flavors like
banana, root beer and orange dream! We
also tasted farm fresh butter and cheeses!
Everyone had the opportunity to milk a
cow, see the milking and bottling processes,
and interact with newborn calves. Keep in
mind, if you purchase Shatto Milk from
your local grocery, you can return the
empty glass bottles to the store with your
receipt and receive a partial monetary
refund for them to recycle the bottles back
to Shatto. We highly recommend you give
them a try, and/or make the trip up to visit
them yourself (try the ice cream, too!)
